Hello!

Michelle Jing Chan (she/her) is a queer Chinese American author-illustrator who studied engineering and economics, but now creates books and comics for kids and teens. She gravitates towards empowering stories that celebrate diversity and self-acceptance –books she would have loved to read as a kid!

She has illustrated several picture books, including two Golden Books on Lunar New Year and Pride; and STAY ANGRY LITTLE GIRL, a picture book inspired by Madeleine L’Engle’s iconic classic A WRINKLE IN TIME. Michelle’s books have earned awards from the Children’s Book Council, the Chinese American Librarians Association, and Hindi’s Libraries. Her work has been featured in the Wing Luke Museum, Buzzfeed, and Upworthy.

Michelle is also the author-illustrator of the upcoming picture books WEIWEI’S WINTER SOLSTICE and LION DANCER’S LOST LETTUCE, and her debut Young Adult graphic novel SOMEWHERE IN THE GRAY.

When she’s not working at her desk, Michelle spends her time petting the neighborhood cats, cozying up with a book, or hunting for ghosts and cryptids in spooky video games.

Michelle is proudly represented by Jemiscoe Chambers-Black at Andrea Brown Literary Agency.
