Join Michelle and fellow creators Julia Kuo and Nicole Xu at Mam’s Books for a special storytime featuring books about AANHPI history!
Michelle will be reading her book MAMIE TAPE FIGHTS TO GO TO SCHOOL (written by Traci Huahn), which is based on the true story of Mamie Tape, an 8-year-old Chinese American changemaker who fought for the right to attend her all-white segregated school. Julia will be reading her book I AM AN AMERICAN (written by Martha Brockenbrough and Grace Lin), which is about Wong Kim Ark and his role in the fight for birthright citizenship. Nicole will be reading her book DREAMS TO ASHES (written by Livia Blackburne), which is about the 1871 Los Angeles Chinatown massacre and its effects on Asian American history. After storytime, the three of them will be hosting a panel discussion about AANHPI history, civil rights, and the process of illustrating nonfiction picture books.
All ages welcome!
